Here’s a nice little snippet from the Evening Herald of Monday 7th June
http://www.thisisplymouth.co.uk/news/A38-junction-major-works/article-2273564-detail/article.html
We’re told that, “A MINOR A38 junction east of Plymouth could be completely revamped as part of a £23million scheme to improve access for workers and residents.” Indeed it would; the road should have been 3 lanes at least as far as Ivybridge in the first place, though running a third lane now to the tiny hamlet of Smithaleigh might not have been my highest priority during the current squeeze on public expenditure.
However, as Gary Streeter points out, it would improve access to Langage too.
There would be a third ‘advantage’; it would provide easy access, through Higher Challonsleigh Farm, to New England Quarry, where Viridor are proposing to build an Energy from Waste incinerator. Higher Challonsleigh might be persuaded; unfortunately it suffered the only outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease within about 20 miles during the 2001 epidemic.
The alignment of the existing roads would make them easy to connect up to the improved junction, and the over-bridge already exists, so it wouldn’t cost too much – perhaps Viridor might even chip in some money – and it would get around the problem of EfW traffic travelling through Lee Mill, which was one of the major causes of objections to the proposal.
WE’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO NOTICE THAT. |
