Dear Ms Warren,

Thank you very much for your email.

At the moment the South Hams waste plan is a combination of landfill and recycling. The landfill at Chelson Meadow is virtually full hence the need for another solution. Currently most of Devon recycles between 50% and 60% of its rubbish and whilst I agree more could be done the perceived wisdom is that there is a maximum of about 60% recycling and thereafter there is a need for an alternative solution hence the plan for an incinerator.

I must make it clear that I am not against all incinerators and we would be making a huge mistake to try and defeat the current proposal for New England Quarry by trying to oppose incinerators in general rather than this specific proposal.

The three councils have already made a decision to have an incinerator and we must focus on the reasons why New England Quarry is not an appropriate site.

I have called a public meeting at The Watermark in Ivybridge at 7.00pm on Monday, 14 December to consider this matter further and to agree an action plan and I hope you will be able to attend.

Best wishes,

Gary Streeter

Subject: Waste Collection Options

Dear Mr Streeter,

Please would you be kind enough to provide more information regarding the waste and how it is processed in the South Hams area?
I live in Ivybridge and am concerned that the council could do more to recycle waste. Currently they do not offer road side collection for glass, plastics and tetra packs. I would be happy to pay for such a service and would like to know how this could be arranged.
I would also like to take this opportunity to inform you that I am opposed to the planned incinerator and would like to see a cost benefit analysis of alternatives for our waste. There is serious profit to be made from waste, as producers of waste, we the people, hold much power in choosing who makes this profit and how we would like it to be processed.

Many thanks for your time.

Best regards,
Anna .
