Hi All
This is just a quick update on the fast-moving events of the last few days.
On Saturday, campaigners from EcoIvy joined an anti-incineration march at Devonport. Despite the horrible wet weather some 250 marched to voice their opposition to the scheme.
This followed our march the week before where in excess of 250 had marched against the incinerator at Lee Mill.
So a big thank you to all the people who came and also who contacted their Councillors.
What was really great to see on both marches was the two communities coming together to say we don’t want an incinerator anywhere.
At both events, speaker after speaker implored our local councillors to listen to us.
However, they have not.
Yesterday the Business Plan for incinerator at Devonport was unanimously approved by Plymouth, Torbay and Devon County Councils.
Although this was predicted, it does come as a disappointment.
This said, the fight is very much still on. Despite the business plan being approved, we are gaining more and more support from some councillors and the media that incineration is an out-dated technology, which will waste hundreds of millions of pounds of our money, at the same time as blighting our communities and poisoning our air.
So the fight continues:
Viridor’s original planning application for its proposed incinerator at Lee Mill received so many objections that they have had to modify their plans at the site, on issues such as structure and drainage amongst other things.
The changes made to the original plans will be up for consultation again with the public within the next two weeks.
The public and statutory consultees, such as the Environment Agency, will be given two months to review the plans and submit their objections to the planning application changes.
I would urge you all to review Viridor’s new proposal and formally respond to it to Devon County Council. A copy will be placed in the Watermark Centre in Ivybridge. I’ll let you know when it is there.
- MVV Umwelt proposed incinerator at Devonport
The planning application for the Devonport MVV Umwelt incinerator has not yet been submitted but when it is we will inform you and we should be ready with our objections.
Despite the fact they have no planning permission, MVV Umwelt and the South West Devon Waste Partnership are holding a series of public road shows in February 2011 to push forward with their highly controversial plans.
The dates and times are:
-
8 February 2011 - 2.30pm to 6.30pm, Torbay Town Hall, Castle Circus, Torquay.
-
9 February 2011 - 4.30pm to 7.30pm, Weston Mill Community Primary School, Ferndale Road, Plymouth.

10 February 2011 - 2.30pm to 6.30pm, Tamar View Community Complex, Miers Close, St Budeaux, Plymouth.

15 February 2011 - 2.30pm to 6.30pm, St Budeaux Community Centre, Wolseley Road, Plymouth.

-
26 February 2011 - 10.30am to 1.30pm, Plymouth Guildhall.
The road shows will be an opportunity to find out more about the proposals, speak with MVV and partnership officers and for you to object.
The closest place for many of you will be the 16 February meeting at the Watermark in Ivybridge.
I urge you to get there to voice your concerns.
Finally, the community group Incineration Is Wrong are holding a protest on 26th of February at 12.00. They will be meeting outside the Plymouth Guildhall on the corner of Royal Parade and Armada Way.
It's going to be big protest so it would be great if some of us could go down and support them as they have supported us.
We will do our best to keep you informed of any new developments.
