Hi All,
Now we are battling two proposed incinerators, the pace of campaigning has intensified over the last few days. Here are some recent developments:
This is really important to anyone who cares about what happens at New England Quarry. Devon County Council has received changes from Viridor that are in response to Devon’s questions and objections to the waste company’s initial planning application.
The Council is now putting Viridor’s revised plans and documents out to public consultation. So now is your chance to have your say AGAIN.
Last time round there were a huge 1,600 objections to Viridor’s plans. We need to keep the pressure up.
We now have two months to submit objections. The deadline is 11 April 2011.
There are two ways to see the information:
You can access the document via:
The amended documentation received is available in electronic form at:
www.devon.gov.uk/planpage_3_3650
The Regulation 19 (Additional Environmental information) is also available at: www.devon.gov.uk/planpage_4_3650
The application reference is : DCC/2975/2010
Paper versions of the original documentation and the amended information received in January 2011 will be available at the following locations:
-
South Hams District Council Office, Follaton House. Totnes
-
The Watermark Centre, Ivybridge.
-
Devon County Council, Lucombe House, County Hall, Exeter.
We want as many people as possible to comment on the new proposals, although previous objections – all 1,600 – will still apply too.

One of the many downsides of incineration is that every four tonnes of incinerated waste will generate over one tonne of ash. This still need to be disposed of.
MVV Umvelt – or one of its contractors - plans to build a plant at Whitecleaves Quarry in Buckfastleigh to store and then reform ash from the proposed incinerator in Devonport into road aggregate.
About 56,000 tonnes of ash a year would be driven up the A38 in lorries to the plant. Imagine how many lorries that will be. Indeed some people are now calling the A38 Incinerator Alley!!
Proposals for the plant will be on show at St Luke's Church Hall, Buckfastleigh on 18th February between 1300 and 1900 GMT when MVV will be answering questions and can listen to your objections.
So if you can make it please go there too.
May I also remind you that anti-Incineration groups from throughout South Devon and Plymouth are holding a protest on 26th of February at 11.00. They will be meeting outside the Plymouth Guildhall on the corner of Royal Parade and Armada Way. The protest is to lobby the local council who will be holding a meeting on incineration.
This event is being organised by our friends at Incineration Is Wrong
(www.iiw.org.uk), with support from the Devon Alliance for
Incineration Alternatives (DAIA).
It's going to be big protest so it would be great if some of us could go down and support them as they have supported us.
Finally, I look forward to seeing some of you at the presentation by MVV Umwelt and the Waste Partnership at the Watermark on Wednesday 16th February between 4.30pm to 7.30pm
